Schaumburg Criminal Court Records

Schaumburg criminal court records are handled by the Cook County Circuit Court for the majority of the village, which sits primarily in Cook County. A small portion of Schaumburg extends into DuPage County, so the county that handles a case depends on where the incident took place. Cook County criminal records are not available online and must be accessed in person. DuPage County cases can be searched through online tools. This page explains how to locate records, which offices to contact, and what options exist for both county portions of the village.

Cook County Cases: In-Person Access Only

Most of Schaumburg falls within Cook County. For criminal cases in that portion of the village, Cook County is one of the few Illinois counties that does not offer online access to criminal court records. You cannot search Cook County criminal cases through Judici or re:SearchIL. You must go in person to the courthouse where the case was filed.

The Cook County Circuit Clerk is Mariyana T. Spyropoulos. Her office is at 50 W. Washington, Suite 1001, Chicago, IL 60602. The phone number is 312/603-5030. More information is available at cookcountyclerkofcourt.org. When you call, staff can tell you which courthouse holds a specific case based on the case number or defendant name.

Felony cases originating in the northwest Cook County area, which covers Schaumburg, are typically handled at the Rolling Meadows Courthouse, located at 2121 Euclid Ave., Rolling Meadows, IL 60008. That is the courthouse most likely to hold criminal cases for Schaumburg residents or incidents that occurred in the Cook County portion of the village. Misdemeanor and traffic matters may go to the same facility. Call the Circuit Clerk first to confirm before making the trip.

Once you are at the correct courthouse, ask the clerk's staff to look up the case by name or case number. Staff will pull the file from the docket. Copies of records carry a fee. You will need a valid photo ID. Records that are sealed or expunged by court order are not available to the public.

See the Cook County criminal court records page for full details on that county's system, courthouse locations, and how to request certified copies.

DuPage County Cases: Online Search Available

A small section of Schaumburg extends into DuPage County. Criminal cases arising in that portion of the village are filed with the DuPage County Circuit Court. Unlike Cook County, DuPage County does offer online access to court records.

The DuPage County Circuit Clerk is Candice Adams. Her office can be reached at 630/407-8700. The county's court records portal is available through dupageco.org. You can search DuPage cases online by name or case number. Cases from the DuPage portion of Schaumburg should appear in that system. If you are unsure which county the incident occurred in, check both systems or call each clerk's office to ask.

DuPage County is also part of the Judici network. Judici at judici.com provides free public access to court records from 82 Illinois counties, and DuPage is one of them. The re:SearchIL platform at researchil.tylerhost.net has also been free to the public since May 1, 2025, and covers DuPage County as well. Either tool can be a starting point for DuPage case lookups.

For more on how DuPage handles criminal records, see the DuPage County criminal court records page.

What Criminal Court Records Include

A criminal court file in Illinois holds the charging document, defendant name and date of birth, the charges filed, all court dates, motions from both sides, plea information, and the final outcome. If there was a trial, the verdict is in the file. If a sentence was imposed, that is recorded too.

Not all records are public. Juvenile cases are sealed by default under Illinois law. Records that a judge has ordered sealed or expunged will not appear in a clerk search. Police reports are held by the arresting agency, not the Circuit Clerk. Those are separate from the court file and must be requested directly from the Schaumburg Police Department or the relevant law enforcement agency.

Under 705 ILCS 105, Illinois court records are public documents. The clerk must make them available on request. The main exception is records sealed or expunged by court order.

Illinois State Police Background Checks

The Illinois State Police Bureau of Identification (ISP BOI) maintains statewide criminal history records. These records pull from court convictions across all Illinois counties, including both Cook and DuPage. A state criminal history check is more comprehensive than a single county search because it covers the whole state.

The ISP BOI office is at 260 N. Chicago Street, Joliet, IL 60432. The phone number is 815/740-5160. You can request a name-based or fingerprint-based background check through this office. Fingerprint checks are more precise. Results from a full state check will show convictions from any county in Illinois where a final disposition was reported to the state.

The screenshot below shows the ISP Bureau of Identification agency page, which is where official criminal history requests are processed for Illinois residents.

The ISP BOI is the most reliable source for a complete picture of someone's Illinois criminal record, especially when a case may have been filed in more than one county over time.

re:SearchIL and Judici: Statewide Online Tools

Illinois has two main online platforms for searching court records. re:SearchIL went free to the public on May 1, 2025. It covers case information from courts across the state. Judici covers 82 of Illinois's 102 counties and has long offered free public access to court records.

Neither platform includes Cook County criminal records. That is a key fact for Schaumburg users looking for records tied to the Cook County portion of the village. However, for DuPage County cases, both tools work well. If you are not sure which county a case was filed in, you can run the name through both systems and see what comes up.

These tools are useful for quick name checks. They will not replace a certified copy from the clerk's office if you need official documentation.

Legal Help in the Schaumburg Area

If you need help understanding a criminal case or navigating the court process, several resources serve the Schaumburg area. Illinois Legal Aid Online at illinoislegalaid.org offers free legal information and can connect people with legal aid services. The Cook County public defender's office serves those who qualify based on income. DuPage County has its own public defender's office for cases filed in that county.

Private criminal defense attorneys who practice in Cook County's northwest suburban courts are another option. Many offer free initial consultations. The Illinois State Bar Association referral service can help match you with an attorney who handles criminal matters in the appropriate county.

Under 20 ILCS 2635, the Illinois Criminal Identification Act governs how criminal records are maintained and who may access them. If you believe a record contains an error or needs to be corrected, the ISP BOI is the agency to contact for statewide records, while the Circuit Clerk handles corrections to court case entries.
