The state's free re:SearchIL portal covers criminal and civil cases from Illinois courts, including Clay County. It has been open to the public since May 1, 2025, and no account is needed for basic name searches. Access it at researchil.tylerhost.net. Both tools are useful for finding case numbers, but certified copies must come from the clerk's office in Louisville.

Which Clay County Records Are Public

Most adult criminal court records in Illinois are open to the public. Anyone can access criminal complaints, indictments, motion filings, hearing dockets, plea agreements, and sentencing orders from Clay County Circuit Court without giving a reason.

Some records are not open. Juvenile criminal records are confidential under Illinois law. Records that have been sealed or expunged by court order are removed from public access.
