Searching Cases on Judici
McLean County uses Judici.com for public online case access. This platform covers 82 Illinois counties and lets you search by defendant name or case number. You can see charges, court dates, case status, and final outcomes for closed cases.
Basic case index information on Judici is free. Document images may require a fee. Judici is typically updated within a day or two of filings. It is a good first stop for most searches, but it does not include all filed documents, and for certified copies you still need to contact the clerk's office.
re:SearchIL Statewide Access
The state's free court records portal, re:SearchIL, became available to the public on May 1, 2025. The portal is at researchil.tylerhost.net. McLean County cases can be searched there along with other participating circuits. Registration is not needed for basic searches.
re:SearchIL is especially useful when you are not sure which county a case is in, or if you want to search for cases in multiple counties at once. It covers both civil and criminal filings.

Bloomington Police Department
Arrest records and police reports from the Bloomington Police Department are a separate source from court records. The department is at 305 S. East St., Bloomington, IL 61701, phone (309) 434-2800. Their website is at cityblm.org/police.
Police records show that an arrest happened. Court records show what followed. These are two different files held by two different agencies. You may need both depending on what you are researching. Police reports can be requested through a Freedom of Information Act submission to the Bloomington Police Department. Illinois FOIA law requires a response within five business days in most cases.
An arrest by Bloomington police does not always lead to court charges. The McLean County State's Attorney decides whether to file. If charges were filed, a circuit court case record exists. If not, only the police arrest record may be on file.
Illinois State Police Criminal History Records
The Illinois State Police Bureau of Identification (ISP BOI) holds a statewide fingerprint-based criminal history database covering all Illinois counties, including McLean. This system captures arrests, charges, and court dispositions from every jurisdiction in the state. It is a different database from the local court records at the circuit clerk's office.
The ISP BOI is at 260 N. Chicago Street, Joliet, IL 60432, phone 815/740-5160. You can request your own criminal history directly. State criminal history record access is governed by 20 ILCS 2635. Third-party access to another person's state criminal history is more limited and depends on the requester's authorization level.
Criminal Case Types and Records
McLean County handles all categories of criminal cases. Class X felonies are the most serious and carry mandatory prison sentences. Lesser felonies are Class 1 through Class 4. Misdemeanors are Class A through Class C. Class A misdemeanors are the most serious and can carry up to one year in jail. Traffic cases with criminal elements, like DUI, also generate court records that are public.
Case file content at the McLean County Circuit Court typically includes the charging document, bail order, attorney appearances, motions, hearing records, and the final judgment. If the case went to trial, a record of the verdict and any sentencing order will also be in the file. Transcripts of proceedings require a separate order and are not always immediately available.
In Illinois, felony case numbers start with "CF," misdemeanors with "CM," and traffic-criminal cases with "TR." The case year is embedded in the number. Knowing the case number before you go or before you search online saves time.
